HybriSlip™ Hybridization Covers

HYBRISLIP™ HYBRIDIZATION COVERS

HybriSlip™ hybridization covers are rigid, light-weight, thin plastic coverslips that minimize friction and facilitate uniform reagent distribution during incubation steps which require small reagent volume.

HybriSlips™ are RNase and DNase free, hydrophobic covers that will not trap or bind probes to their surfaces like coverglass.   Working surfaces are protected from nuclease contamination by clean liners and are ready to use without pretreatment.   HybriSlips™ remain flat and unlike Parafilm, will not curl, even at high temperatures.   HybriSlips™ are clear, will not chip or break, and are lighter weight than glass, minimizing friction and facilitating uniform reagent distribution.

HybriSlips™ are easily customized providing users with options tailored to suit their application.  Changes in size, shape and quantity per package are the most common requests.  HybriSlip™ plastic material is also stocked in thickness 0.18 mm.

Hybrislips™ are manufactured from rigid, nuclease free polycarbonate plastic which has a nominal thickness of 0.254 mm.  Both surfaces are protected with a thin, removable layer of polyethylene film to prevent contamination.  HybriSlips™ are packaged in quantities of 100 per bag in strips of 5 each. This product is available in a wide variety of square or rectangular dimensions and is easily customized to fit your specific application requirements.

Ideally suited for incubation steps where reagent volume is limited such as:  In situ hybridization, in situPCR, microarray hybridizations and immunohistochemistry. For best results, incubation steps should be performed in a humidified chamber to minimize evaporation from the edges. Where CV’s between replicate samples are important, distributing the same volume of reagent per cm2 can be a critical variable. HybriSlips™ are designed to overcome the limitations of do-it-yourself methods that involve trimming plastic films as covers.

FAQ

Q:  My hybridization cocktail contains Formamide , will HybriSlips™ work with this reagent?

A:  Yes, HypriSlips™ are chemically resistant to most commonly used hybridization reagents.  For a full list of chemical compatibilities you can consult many of the tables that are available on-line and search: polycarbonate.

Q:  What is the best method to use for removing  a HybriSlip™ from atop my specimen?

A:   To minimize the surface tension between the HybriSlip™ and your specimen, we recommend dipping slides into a dish contain wash buffer and allowing the HybriSlip™ to slide off gently.  Peeling them off, just as with glass coverslips, is not recommended as this can compromise sample adherence and morphology.

Q:  How can I sterilize our HybriSlips™?

A:  Using sterile technique, remove the liners from both surfaces of the product followed by one of the following options:  dipping them into 70% isopropanol  and allowing them to dry,  using  UV sterilization in the hood, or lightly flaming them and allowing them to cool before use.  You may also autoclave the HybriSlips™ – first remove the liners (they melt).

A:  The refractive index of the polycarbonate used to manufacture HybriSlips™  is 1.586

Q: What is the working temperature range for HybriSlip™ material?

A:  Materials remain stable between  minus  135 to 121oC
